Burnishing Process - A Review

Abstract

Burnishing is a cold working super finishing process. In burnishing ball or roller is pressed against the workpiece of the material due to which plastic deformation of surface irregularities takes place and surface becomes smooth. Quality of Surface plays a vital role in deciding the performance of a manufactured product. The burnishing process is a chip-less machining process which induces residual compressive stresses on the machined surface to improve surface qualities like roughness, hardness, wear resistance, fatigue strength of the material. For improving the surface qualities, there are various methods available. Burnishing can be done on ferrous as well non-ferrous materials.
