Building the Evidence Base for Moral Resilience

Abstract

The concept of moral resilience has gained increased interest. It has been included in various studies in which most of the researchers examined moral resilience among a health-oriented caregiving population. Without a valid and reliable measure of moral resilience, it would neither be possible to gauge the existing level of moral resilience among healthcare professionals nor to measure the effectiveness of interventions designed to enhance moral resilience in this population. The need to measure moral resilience in an empirically sound manner led to the development of the Rushton Moral Resilience Scale (RMRS). This chapter reviews the development of the RMRS scale, examines evidence derived from studies using it, and proposes future directions.
