This paper presents reconsideration of value creation in production from various aspects of value viewpoints in several disciplines such as production engineering, social sciences, and human sciences. The focal point of investigations is value co-creation by the provision of products and services in and for society. In the past, some methods of social sciences and others proved to be useful in making production more efficient. At present, such methods must help to realise value creation. In fact, production must become more effective in response to human needs in social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Along with the theoretical apparatus, this paper presents some case studies indicating the importance of value creation in production, followed by future perspectives of value cocreation in production.

This paper addresses the design and implementtation of a residential gateway: MyServer, which is to provide services regarding home security, inventory tracking, facility management, and family care in a smart home system. Inherently an interactive and multitasking system driven by peripherals connected through wireless sensor networks, the overall MyServer architecture is designed with six clearly defined core service modules operating on a message oriented middleware (MOM) framework. Each of these modules is implemented with a programming template utilizing event publish/subscribe messaging mechanism. This paper also demonstrates a successful implementation of the proposed MyServer system in an emulated home environment, where peripherals are connected through ZigBee wireless sensor network.

In mobile peer-to-peer information sharing, binding to -and sharing with -another device uses up computing resources and makes sense only when certain conditions are met. We propose a visual notation and an software tool for mobile devices that address the need for a simple and intuitive way to allow the setting and testing of policies for on-the-go information exchange (e.g., playlists). This intuitive and visual approach -called MotionMaps -is well-suited for small screens and helps ensure efficient use of device and network resources. This last claim is supported in this paper by simulation and analysis that makes clear the impact of these policies on the effectiveness of information exchange across several mobile use cases.
