“…The role hospital midwives play in fostering maternal confidence is also an important finding from this study. When compared to the feedback about LMC midwives (Dixon et al, 2023), the confidence gained from a relationship with a hospital midwife tends to be more practical and skills-based and relates specifically to the early postnatal period. In the current study, communication that involves smiling and the use of humour also appears to play a role in fostering maternal confidence in a high time-pressure environment.…”
