Building Information Modelling in Cameroon

Abstract: BIM has recently gained ground in developed countries. However, the use of BIM in developing countries including Cameroon is not well-known. In this study, BIM implementation in Cameroon is explored. The research methods used are a pilot study, electronic email surveys and in-depth phone interviews. Altogether, 179 professionals having at least a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from the National Advanced School of Engineering Yaoundé I - Cameroon, a leading engineering institution in Francophone Africa, w… Show more

“…The level of awareness in Cameroon is not reflective of the real situation, as the purposive sampling technique was adopted. Expectedly, all of the respondents are aware of BIM, because they are all BIM users or adopters [71]. There is a dearth of BIM report as regards the adoption and implementation in Africa, contrary to what is obtainable in the developed countries where industry reports, such as the National BIM Survey (NBS) reports and McGraw Hills, reports are available.…”

“…However, the existing ontologies for cost estimation are either building component-based (e.g. elemental costing) (Abanda et al, 2011;Staub-French et al, 2003;Zhiliang and Zhenhua, 2012) or resource-based (Lee et al, 2014;Li et al, 2020). Either of them has little account for processes.…”
