Building conditions assessment of built heritage in historic building information modeling

Abstract: The article concerns the implementation of the HBIM approach (Historic Building Information Modeling) for the refurbishment and preservation of historic buildings. The scientific and technical community confirmed the efficacy of BIM tools for knowledge managing and sharing, still noting a limited research of Building Conditions Assessment in HBIM. Starting with observed criticalities and potentialities, we propose a method for sharing and re-using information acquired through archival analysis, damage survey a… Show more

“…The parametric approach, therefore, allows to modify the level of details of the modelled object depending on new information available about it (e.g. through non-destructive tests) (Bruno, Fatiguso, 2018;Oreni et al, 2017;Stober et al, 2018). The transition from discrete three-dimensional model of point clouds to an infographic model, involves simplifications and deductive assumptions.…”

“…Research has considered the practical issues of data capture, subsequent 3D parametric modelling from point cloud data, automated data processing, pattern recognition, and the creation of object libraries [6,7,8]. The potential of BIM as a centralised data hub, facilitating the production, integration and management of required building information such as survey data, material, constructional and performance analysis, drawings, photographs, historical information and archival data, has also been the focus of much recent research [9,10,11,12,13]. Furthermore, key BIM concepts such as component based parametric modelling and associated data parameters, inventory and database development, and the extraction and transfer of structured data have been identified as beneficial in the operational phase of a building's lifecycle [14,15], particularly for repair and maintenance.…”
