“…Systems Change for Health (http://systemschangeforhealth.web.unc.edu/) is a competency-based training curriculum designed to “teach the concepts of effective policy change and strengthen practitioners’ skills and competencies.” The training has been provided across the country at various state and local health departments as well as at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Emery & Crump, 2018). “…We highly recommend the Summit as a way to build advocacy skills and confidence and to participate in advocacy around priority issues for our field (e.g., the 2018 Summit priorities included gun violence prevention and support for the Prevention and Public Health Fund). For those unable to attend advocacy events at the Capitol, state-level opportunities may be found closer to home (see Carson, Hancher-Rauch, & Gebru, 2018). Participating at the state level provides an opportunity to voice your concerns directly to legislators from your community and can influence state policy.…”

“…Graduate programs specific to public health where many hours can be put into advocacy and public policy training have been shown to be highly effective; however, it is important to incorporate advocacy skills and training in K-12 and college, especially for those who do not attend graduate school [3]. Promoting health advocacy is becoming an increasingly important topic of interest at the high school, college, graduate school, and post-graduate levels [3,[7][8][9][10]. Promoting health advocacy at a young age has the potential to gear students to practice advocacy in their future careers and training.…”
