Building a Wind Power Plant from Scrap and Raising Public Awareness for Renewable Energy Technology in a Circular Economy

Abstract: Putting renewable energy to good use is necessary to deal with one of the greatest challenges of our time, namely, climate change. One problem, however, is that the technology we are using today turns into toxic waste at the end of its useful life, which in particular concerns the blades of wind turbines. We investigated how the ideas of a circular economy can be applied to address this issue. To this end, we built a small wind turbine almost entirely from used mAterials. The social purpose of this is to raise… Show more

“…The pulverizing aerator, for discharging harmful gases of anaerobic decomposition of organic matter contained in bottom sediments, such as hydrogen sulfide, methane and ammonia, and for the simultaneous oxygenation of hypolimnion waters, uses only wind energy [10,20]. This is the cleanest energy available on Earth [29,30]. This type of aerator maintains moderate oxygenation in the bottom area in the range of 0-1 mg O 2 •dm −3 [21].…”

“…About a third of the 66 titles broadly discuss: the role of wind and other renewable energy technologies to power a sustainable and circular economy [57,58,[67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77], or battery storage (e.g., [72,78]) and the potential for integration with a hydrogen economy to avoid a loss of generated wind power (e.g., [79]), using hydrogen subsequently in methanol production [80][81][82]. Schoden et al [83] present a project to raise public awareness about the need for a circular economy for wind turbines.…”
