Building a Dynamic, Large-Scale Spatio-temporal Vector Database to Support a National Spatial Data Infrastructure in China

Abstract

This paper introduces a comprehensive approach to support dynamic, large-scale spatio-temporal vector database development. The approach is based on a version-difference spatio-temporal data model that targets common problems in developing large-scale spatio-temporal vector databases. The scenario is to establish a National Fundamental Geospatial Information Dynamic Database (NFGIDD) in China. The proposed methodology was demonstrated by an experimental spatiotemporal database system that consists of a database management platform and a data processing system. The experimental results show that our methods have significant advantages over traditional spatio-temporal data models.
