Budget Constrained Resource Allocation for Non-deterministic Workflows on an IaaS Cloud

Abstract: Many scientic applications are described through workow structures. Due to the increasing level of parallelism oered by modern computing infrastructures, workow applications now have to be composed not only of sequential programs, but also of parallel ones. Cloud platforms bring on-demand resource provisioning and pay-as-you-go payment charging. Then the execution of a workow corresponds to a certain budget. The current work addresses the problem of resource allocation for non-deterministic workows under budge… Show more

“…1 Yet, from this lengthy publication list, only the conference paper by Caron, Desprez, Muresan, and Suter (2012) is ostensibly related to cloud computing. This is largely due to the fact that SimGrid, as the name suggests, was originally designed to simulate grid computing environments.…”

“…Several algorithms based on heuristics have been proposed in the literature [13] [4] [9] [17] [18] [19]. Each one takes into account some metrics to ensure the resources provisioning.…”
