BTADCI Promoted One‐pot Synthesis of 14‐aryl‐14H‐dibenzo [a, j] Xanthenes

Abstract: A convenient eco‐friendly one‐pot synthesis of 14‐aryl‐14H‐dibenzo [a, j] xanthenes were developed by the condensation of aromatic aldehydes and β‐naphthol with BTADCI (Benzyltrimethylammonium dichloroiodate) as catalyst under solvent free conditions and microwave irradiation with much more rate accelerations and afford very good yields. Developed protocols involve mild reaction conditions, simple isolation of derivatives with inexpensive reagents.

“…Pagadala and Kusampally demonstrated the solvent-free, four-component synthesis of pyrrole derivatives by using the benzyltrimethylammonium dichloroiodate (BTADCI) catalyst through a highly effective and eco-friendly strategy. [91] The reaction was found to be completed in 30 to 40 min at 80 α-bromo ketones and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate catalyzed by H 3 PW 12 O 40 under solvent-free conditions. [92] The reaction afforded best results when carried out at room temperature, using 0.05 mol% of the catalyst for polysubstituted pyrroles and with 0.1 mol% of the catalyst for bis-pyrroles (Scheme 37).…”

“…Pagadala et al in 2018 reported [157] for the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo [a, j] xanthenes using aromatic aldehydes and β-naphthol with BTADCI (Benzyltrimethylammonium dichloroiodate) as a Lewis acid catalyst in MI under solvent free conditions (Scheme 22). They established a practice with more advantages like, good yields and at a low cost of the catalyst.…”

“…Our research interest is investigating the innovative catalysts for the construction of different biologically active heterocycles [44][45][46][47]. With this chemistry, we are mainly fascinating in producing a simpler method for the construction of multi-substituted pyridines by replacing toxic solvents and less toxic catalysts.…”
