BSA-encapsulated cyclometalated iridium complexes as nano-photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy of tumor cells

Abstract: Three new iridium complexes were synthesized and fabricated with BSA to form nano-photosensitizers, which can catalyze oxygen to produce singlet oxygen to achieve photodynamic therapy of tumor cells.

“…Importantly, conjugation of peptides 10 and 11 carrying Met and Trp worked well to provide the products 10 a and 11 a , respectively, in excellent yields with complete suppression of side‐chain oxidation. Therefore, we postulated that these undesired oxidized products could be attributed to the generation of singlet oxygen by blue LED, [34] and therefore the employment of CFL could also initiate the radical conjugation in a mild manner ( N ‐terminal conjugation of all peptides was confirmed by tandem MS/MS analysis, see Section 5 in the Supporting Information for detailed characterization).…”

“…According to our previous study, iridium complexes had excellent light absorption ability and could be used in photodynamic therapy. , First, the light absorption ability of IP was evaluated. The result demonstrated that IP had adequate absorption of ultraviolet light and visible light in an aqueous solution, and the light absorption continued to about 600 nm (Figure S5).…”

“…Cancer detection has become more sensitive and accurate. In the treatment of cancer, radiotherapy (RT) [ 25 , 26 ], chemotherapy [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ], photodynamic therapy (PDT) [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 ], photothermal therapy (PTT) [ 37 , 38 , 39 ], sonodynamic therapy (SDT) [ 40 , 41 , 42 ], immunotherapy [ 43 , 44 , 45 ], starvation therapy (ST) [ 33 , 46 , 47 ], magnetothermal therapy (MHT) [ 48 , 49 ], and other therapies have also shown good anticancer effects. As a remarkable diagnostics reagent candidate, the Re element has attracted the attention of many researchers because of its unique physical and chemical properties.…”
