Bronchotomy in the treatment of a low-grade bronchial mucoepidermoid carcinoma in a child

Abstract: been high with particulate or liquid embolic media. Rather, we attempted to reduce blood flow as much as possible to facilitate operation.Complete surgical resection of a mediastinal AVM is rarely possible. Anti-angiogenic therapy, corticosteroid treatment, interferon administration, and intralesional sclerotherapy have not been helpful. 4 A carefully planned program of embolization to reduce flow, followed by surgical excision, was effective in controlling the first patient's tracheal disease. An earlier agg… Show more

“…MEC of the lung may be surgically treated by lobectomy, sleeve resection, local resection, segmental resection, or bronchotomy [9, 12, 13]. This may be done by thoracoscopy or via thoracotomy depending on the location and extent of the lesion [14].…”

“…Parenchyma-sparing bronchial resections are applicable if the tumors are low grade and localized in the bronchus. 3 Lucchi et al reported 12 cases of wedge resections without resection of any parenchyma for bronchial tumors between 1980 and 2006. 4 Rizzardi et al reported that 15 patients underwent bronchoplastic procedures without parenchymal resection among 155 centrally located typical carcinoid tumors.…”

“…However, if the tumors are of low-grade malignancy or benign, parenchymapreserving bronchial resection is possible depending on the location of tumors. [1][2][3] We experienced a case of bronchial wedge resection without any parenchymal resection for a bronchial carcinoid tumor of the left upper lobar bronchus near the bifurcation of the upper and lower bronchi. To prevent the stenosis and the excess tension at the suture site, we resected the bronchus longitudinally including the bronchial corner of the upper and healthy lower lobar bronchi.…”

“…Permiten la preservación máxima del parénquima pulmonar. 8 No se recomienda la resección endoscópica por el riesgo de remoción incompleta y la dificultad en el control del sangrado. 5,12 La quimioterapia y la radioterapia se indican en tumores irresecables y con metástasis a distancia al momento del diagnóstico.…”
