Bromfenac alone or with single intravitreal injection of bevacizumab or triamcinolone acetonide for treatment of uveitic macular edema

Abstract: IVB and IVTA are both effective in improving VA and decreasing CMT up to 3 months. Bromfenac is ineffective alone for UME treatment, but may have a synergistic effect with IVTA in reducing CMT up to 3 months of follow-up.

“…Radwan et al. () evaluated the efficacy of bromfenac eye drops alone or with a single intravitreal injection of bevacizumab or triamcinolone acetonide in uveitic macular oedema eyes and found bromfenac to be ineffective when given alone, but suggested a synergistic effect with triamcinolone for reducing macular oedema, in a 3 months follow‐up time. “…Therefore, focal anti-inflammatory treatment other than intravitreal corticosteroid is much anticipated. A recent study showed the efficacy of topical dexamethasone for reducing diabetic ME,22 while topical NSAIDs had a synergistic effect for IVTA and IVB for uveitic ME 23. These results indicate that topical NSAIDs can permeate to reach the retina, and suppress retinal inflammation, and may augment the effect of IVB or IVTA on reducing ME.…”
