Broadband CPW-Fed Circularly Polarized Planar Monopole Antenna With Inverted-L Strip and Asymmetric Ground Plane for Wlan Application

Abstract: Abstract-A novel broadband circularly polarized planar monopole antenna fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW) is proposed and fabricated. The proposed antenna consists of a rectangular monopole, an inverted-L strip and an asymmetric ground plane with cutting a horizontal slit on the right ground plane. Firstly, a narrow circularly polarized (CP) radiation at the upper band can be achieved by utilizing the asymmetric ground plane. Then, an inverted-L strip is introduced to obtain broadband CP characteristic matched w… Show more

“…Printed monopole antennas are thus the ideal choice for designing compact antennas with a broadband CP property. Several printed CP monopole antennas with different shapes and techniques were proposed in References . Examples include using a branched microstrip feed line with parallel slots, C‐shaped slot antenna, moon‐shaped patch and moon‐shaped ground plane, and parasitic patches with an L‐shaped slot .…”

“…CPW-fed planar antennas with various methods viz. L-shaped slot and strip [5], horizontal slit and inverted L-strip on the ground [6], L-shaped slot and partial ground plane with different heights on either side of the feed line [7] are adopted to improve the ARBW. A CPW-fed planar antenna having quadrilateral shaped radiating copper and an asymmetric ground plane is illustrated in [8].…”

“…To design a broadband CP monopole antenna, many researchers have put focus on using an asymmetric ground plane. In Reference , a printed monopole antenna with a step‐shaped ground plane has been reported an AR bandwidth of 36.5%. In Reference , a CPW‐fed monopole antenna obtained an AR bandwidth of 44.9% by inserting a vertical stub and a horizontal slit on the right ground plane.…”
