Abstract-A broadband circularly polarized (CP) slot antenna array fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is proposed. A fan-shaped feed line and three L-shaped grounded strips are embedded in the square slot antenna element to enlarge the bandwidth. Simulated results show that the antenna element can obtain a wide impedance bandwidth with −10 dB reflection coefficient covering 1.7-6.3 GHz (about 115% relative bandwidth) and 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth covering 2.6-5.2 GHz (about 66%). Using four elements with sequential phase feed, the measured impedance bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth of the antenna array can be enhanced to 105% (1.65-5.35 GHz) and 71.3% (2.3-4.85 GHz), respectively. Good radiation characteristics with the peak gain of 10.8 dBic over the operating band can be obtained.

A metasurface (MS) with switching features from electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) to electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) is theoretically investigated in the terahertz (THz) range by incorporating vanadium dioxide (VO2) when circular polarization‐insensitive circularly polarized waves are incidents, which can also simultaneously realize circular‐to‐linear polarization conversion well. While the VO2 ring is in an insulator state, two new transparent EIT windows both are gained between 0.97 THz and 1.16 THz because of destructive interference between the two metal rings that are seen as bright modes. Once the VO2 ring is tuned to the metallic state, a perfect EIA phenomenon is observed between 0.824 THz and 1.233 THz, achieving the transition from the EIT to EIA behavior well. The received electromagnetic waves are radiated to left‐handed circularly polarized (LCP) or right‐handed circularly polarized (RCP) waves with identical phases and amplitudes through the radiation patches when the LCP or RCP ones are incident. Whereby, a resultant linearly polarized wave is obtained between 0.9 THz and 1.2 THz, and relative bandwidth reaches 29%. The outcomes of maximal group index and group delay both are 1934 and 488 ps at 1.08 THz, and maximal absorption is 90.3% at 1.06 THz.

This article presents a novel circularly polarized sequentially rotated slot antenna array (CPSSAA) designed to operate at a frequency of 5.5 GHz. This antenna is suitable for communication applications such as WLAN/WiMAX. Method of feeding is based on sequential rotation with seven quarter-wavelength transformers. In this case, the elements with 200 X impedance could be replaced by other elements with different input impedance. Reducing the elements input impedance, maximum power can be transferred to the elements. Because the lower losses in transmission line occur in presence of lower impedance, the 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of the CPSSAA extends to~1.3 GHz. The CPSSAA was designed to operate over the frequency range between 4.5 and 6.4 GHz corresponding to an impedance bandwidth of 34.86% for VSWR < 2. Acceptable agreement between the simulation and measured results validates the proposed design.
