Brittle fracture resistance and damping properties of layered metal-polymer composites

Abstract: One of the topical trends in modern materials science is the development and study of new layered metal-polymer composites, which are increasingly used in aerospace engineering, automotive and transport engineering. The metal base of these composites provides a high level of strength properties and impact strength, and the polymer interlayer allows obtaining high damping properties due to its ability to dissipate the energy of elastic vibrations. Of a considerable practical interest is one of the varieties of … Show more

“…Thus, in order to increase the impact strength of the layered composite structure, it is more efficient to introduce a strengthener material as a central layer in a symmetrical composite package. It is in good agreement with the result of previous studies reported in [9,10].…”

“…The increasing tendency of the impact strength of layered composites at lower temperatures is associated with the manifestation of the "delamination toughness" effect when the increase in impact strength mostly results from an increase in the extent of delamination in the composite. This effect is also observed on layered metallic and metal-rubber composites, the test results of which are given in works [10,15]. Since the working temperatures of BC-10T adhesive are in the range of −60…+300°C, the lowtemperature tests were carried out under critical conditions for the adhesive bond.…”
