Abstract

The data reported will hace z'alue in the comparative calculation of costs and losses in the use of crude and purified brines in ammonia clhsorption systems. While such comparisons hace frequently been made under actual .factory operating conditions, this paper supplies some theoretical recognitions which perhaps hwe not been appreciated previously.The study is of substantial practical t!alue to alkali manujacturers as a help in computing the costs of brine purijcution against the use of crude brine.The triple salt, A % I C l~i l i a~C 0 3~~~~~. c : 0 3 , has been prepared and analyzed. A complete solubility study of the system sodium chloride-sodium bicarhonatemagnesium carbonate-water at 50" C. and under a N T H E manufacture of Solvay soda the crude brine used must be purified before it passes to the carbonation system.
