Bright Upconversion Emission, Increased Tc, Enhanced Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties in Er‐Doped CaBi4Ti4O15 Multifunctional Ferroelectric Oxides

Abstract: Er3+‐doped CaBi4Ti4O15 (CBT) bismuth layer structured ferroelectric ceramics were synthesized by the solid state method. Photoluminescence (UC), dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties were systematically studied for the first time. The Er3+‐doped CBT sample showed a bright up‐conversion UC while simultaneously obtaining an increased Curie temperature (Tc), enhanced ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. The UC properties of Er3+‐doped CBT were investigated as a function of Er3+ concentrat… Show more

“…Among various everlasting desires of all the materials scientists, the most important is the search of materials with as maximum functionalities as possible [1] [2]. The transition metals have very rich chemistry due to variable oxidation state, which offer multiple properties, if selected judicially.…”

“…It was found that appropriate content of rare earth could enhance the property of far infrared ceramics. Two reasons are summarized here: (1) in the view of quantum mechanics, the decrease of multi-phonon relaxation rate can promote property of far infrared radiation ceramics [18][19][20]. (2) Lattice distortion and grain refinement are the main affecting factors [21,22].…”

“…Along with the intensive development of ferroelectric materials or devices with multiple functions, rare earth doped multifunctional ferroelectric oxides have been developed [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. These materials exhibited not only enhanced piezoelectric properties but also excellent photoluminescence (PL) properties [6,9,12].…”
