Abstract:A formerly unpublicized briarane diterpenoid, briastecholide M (1), and its established analogue, brianodin B (2), were purified from Briareum stechei, an octocoral collected from Okinawan waters. Using spectroscopic methods, the structure of 1 was established. Functional study showed that 1 can reducing the release of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) but enhancing cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein expression.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
