Bremsstrahlung inαDecay of210Po: DoαParticles Emit Photons in Tunneling?

Abstract: Emission probability of bremsstrahlung in the a decay of 210 Po was measured in a-g coincidence measurements with Si and Ge detectors. It was found that the bremsstrahlung yields are much smaller than those predicted by a Coulomb acceleration model, in which g rays are emitted during acceleration outside the barrier. This suggests that the radiation amplitude in the barrier cannot be neglected, and the discussion based on a quasiclassical approach is given. “…The bremsstrahlung probability in the α-decay of the 214 Po, 226 Ra and 244 Cm nuclei: red solid line is for the absolute probability calculated by the multipole model, dash-dot blue line for the normalized spectrum calculated by approach [25], dash green line for the absolute probability calculated by formula (55) of the multipole model with taking the spectroscopic factor S (th) α into account for the deformed nucleus 226 Ra (we use approximated value S (th) α = 0.2 from table I in [38]), scatter line for experimental data (data [24] for 214 Po, data [25] for 226 Ra), data [7,28] for 244 Cm)).…”
