“…In general, results of previous studies indicate unequivocally that pooled date pollen ex tract is a potent allergen [1][2][3]. Results obtained in this study indicate, however, that this allergenicity is as heterogeneous as the patients' reactivity patterns in our previous studies [2,3] suggesting that there is a cultivar-spccific [8] or breedspecific [14] phenomenon involved in the observed proper ties of date pollen cultivar extracts, and this is probably de termined by the qualitative and/or quantitative [6] (as evi denced by results from ELISA using reducing coating con centrations) presence in a cultivar extract of all or most of the major allergenic protein bands [3,28], as well as (or in addition to) some cultivar-specific binding components. Further investigations in this evidently important area of re search are required before full understanding of the phe nomenon in operation is achieved.…”

“…and even in higher animals examples of breed-specific dog dandruff allergens have been reported [14]. It is there fore highly probable that similar variability exists for many plant pollen allergen extracts including date palm pollen.…”

“…Blands et al [104] found no breed-specific allergens, but more recently some have been isolated [102]. It seems unlikely at present that one can, with certainty, select a breed of low intrinsic allergenicity.…”

“…Can f I (formerly Ag 13). It is common for patients to describe sensitivity to specific breeds but Canf I has been found in at least nine breeds-although with considerable inter-specific and intra-specific variation in concentrations [102]. Canine allergens, like those of cats, can be found in homes where no animals are kept.…”

“…Use of whole pelt would increase the proportion of serum proteins, which are generally of low allergenic activity. In the case of the popular dog allergen extracts, remarkable differences were reported when deriving the material from different dog breeds (Larsen and Dreborg, 2008;Lindgren et al, 1988), a mixture of material from different breeds should be selected representing a balanced content of the major allergens (Uhlin et al, 1984).…”
