Breastfeeding duration in infancy and adult risks of type 2 diabetes in a high‐income country

Abstract: Observed associations between breastfeeding and reduced risk of type 2 diabetes in adulthood may be confounded. We examined if the duration of breastfeeding in infancy was associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes in adulthood after adjustment for a range of prenatal and postnatal risk factors. We prospectively followed 6,044 individuals from the Copenhagen Perinatal Cohort born 1959–1961. Duration of any breastfeeding (≤0.5, >0.5–1, >1–2, >2–4, >4 months) was assessed at the infant's 1‐year health examinati… Show more

“…Tables II-V in Supporting Information Appendix A show the associations of each confounder with the outcomes of interest. 16,17 (2) we used GAM to identify the nonlinear relationships because FT4 was a continuous variable. If a nonlinear relationship was observed, a two-piecewise linear regression model was used to calculate the threshold effect of the FT4 on brain frailty in terms of the smoothing plot.…”

“…The association of serum PGs with ASCVD was accessed by the univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Covariates were adjusted as potential confounders in the multivariate logistic models based on their variance inflation factors (VIF<5.0) in collinearity diagnosis (Supplementary Table 1), and their association with the ASCVD (P < 0.1) or a change in effect estimate of more than 10% [21,22]. Tests of logistic trend (P trend ) across categories of PGs level were conducted by treating categorized indicators as ordinal variables.…”

“…All variables were put into univariable Cox regression analysis. Variables were included as potential confounders in the multivariable Cox regression analysis if they changed effect estimates of surgery on OS by more than 10% or were significantly associated with OS with P-value <0.1 ( 21 ). Regional nodes examined and regional nodes positive were not included as confounders to adjust the effect of surgery for these two variables were closely related to the surgery strategy ( 22 ).…”
