“…The relatively high rate of clinically and grossly unsuspected multicentricity in our study and that documented in the literature (9–24) supports the utilization of radiation in the entire breast following a lumpectomy in a majority of patients. Page (8) has de‐emphasized the importance of multicentric and multifocal disease by correctly pointing out the relatively low rate of recurrence after lumpectomy despite the relatively high reported incidence of multifocality and multicentricity in breast cancer. Radiation therapy to the residual breast tissue may explain the low rate of recurrence.…”
