Abstract: Background Self-rated health (SRH) - one of the most common health indicators used to verify health conditions - can be influenced by several types of socioeconomic conditions, thereby reflecting health inequalities. This study aimed to evaluate the participant profiles regarding the association between self-rated health and social and occupational characteristics of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). Methods Cross-sect… Show more

“…This diversity is reflected in the educational and socioeconomic distribution captured in ELSA-Brasil, where 19% were manual workers, 46% were in a middle socio-occupational category, and 38% were in a higher socio-occupational category, representing managerial or professional occupations. 42 Similarly, 12% were in the low-income category, and nearly 40% were in the middle-income category. Moreover, less than half had a university degree, with 34% with a high school education and 10% with an elementary school education or less.…”

“…National assessments indicate that the lower and middle classes represent 20% and 65% of the population, respectively. 42 Therefore, while like other cohort studies, ELSA-Brasil does not include a fully representative sample of Brazilian adults, it includes a wide range of socioeconomic, educational and occupational classes. To further address the potential limitations in generalisability, we identified persistent overprediction of risk across educational categories, arguing against differences between individuals in our study cohort and the general population.…”

“…The number of dimensions was chosen by analysing the decline in eigenvalues using scree plot. Dendrograms were performed (graphic representations of hierarchical cluster analysis) with the coordinates obtained in the MCA to determine the clusters, providing clear visualization of the categories of variables in each group [ 31 ]. Scatterplots were formed by the coordinates of each category in each dimension, and clusters of categories were used to identify factors associated with body shape trajectories.…”
