Brazil Moving up in the Semiconductor Global Chain

Abstract: Brazil has implemented policies and incentives for the development of semiconductor chain in the country. In this paper, we described the configuration of semiconductor global chain, identifying the main activities of Brazilian companies, the infrastructures involved and the influence of the industrial policies that are fostering the chain configuration. We carried out a qualitative exploratory study in order to obtain the empirical insights of the current Brazilian operations and strategies to leverage its pa… Show more

“…Semiconductor firms are capital intensive. It means that capacity utilization significantly affects the capital effectiveness and profitability of semiconductor firms [55][56][57]. The capital intensiveness is reasoned by the tremendous investment on complex processes of research and development (R&D) with rising costs required, the necessity of economy of scale, and the costs to upgrading plants or building new ones [58].…”

“…It's reasoned that efficient management of supply chains depends on; functional attributes, resources at hand, and demand fulfillment (Heckmann, Comes, & Nickel, 2015). Ideally, all concerning philosophies of SCM consider all supply chain functions for SC strategy formulation, in pursuit of enhancing business performance (Borges & Vieira, 2014;Muysinaliyev & Aktamov, 2014). Earlier literature on supply chain still contains contradictory viewpoints, despite number of research initiatives to understand multiple aspects of supply chain, and very scarce performance outcomes of SCM have yet been explored (Bala, 2014;Oualid, Mocan, Dumitrache, & Amine, 2016).…”
