Branes intersecting at angles

Abstract: We show that configurations of multiple D-branes related by SU(N) rotations will preserve unbroken supersymmetry. This includes cases in which two D-branes are related by a rotation of arbitrarily small angle, and we discuss some of the physics of this. In particular, we discuss a way of obtaining 4D chiral fermions on the intersection of Dbranes. We also rephrase the condition for unbroken supersymmety as the condition that a 'generalized holonomy group' associated with the brane configuration and manifold is … Show more

“…It looks that this contradicts with the worldsheet spectrum, but this is not the case. The fluctuation analysis of the remaining 7 transverse scalar fields provide 7 complex eigen modes at this mass level, which coincides with the worldsheet results in [21]. In the same manner, the number of the fluctuations at each mass level can be shown to be identical with that of corresponding string excitations.…”

“…In the particular class of models at hand, which basically consist of D6-branes at three different angles θ 1 , θ 2 , θ 3 with the real axis of the three T 2 , this amounts to imposing the well-known condition [82] θ 1 a + θ 2 a + θ 3 a = 0 mod 2π, ∀a.…”

“…In the novel framework, on the other hand, the spontaneous breaking can be confined to the worldbrane at the string scale, and then communicate very weakly to the bulk [5]. This can for instance be achieved by turning on internal magnetic fields, or in T-dual language by rotating the branes in the compact space [17] [18].…”
