Branch correlation measurements and analysis in an indoor Rayleigh fading channel for polarization diversity using a dual polarized patch antenna

Abstract: Abstract-Spatial diversity techniques are advantageous if the received signals of the diversity branches are sufficiently uncorrelated. Theoretical study using the power unbalance between the two branches employing Laplacian direction of arrival (DOA) distribution is carried out. It is shown that for low value of cross-polarization power ratio (XPR) the correlation has a negligible effect. In order to validate the theoretical results indoor NLOS measurements were carried out. The measurements were done to stud… Show more

“…As a result of the large amount of interest in the wireless channel, several probability density functions have been proposed [5], [6], [7], validated through measurements. First results were related to the temporal properties of the propagation environment, and finally, a focus in the angular power distribution motivated by the emerging MIMO systems has brought several models for the incident wave statistics.…”

“…Moreover, the co-prime array [ 9 , 10 , 11 ] is also a significant configuration which consists of two uniform sparse linear subarrays. The direction of arrival (DOA) plays an important role in the processing of signals from these vector sensor arrays, which can make full use of the polarization diversity of the impinging sources during the last decades [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ]. The most representative joint DOA and polarization estimation methods are based on the subspace algorithms, including the polarized multiple signal classification (MUSIC) method [ 16 ] and polarized signal parameters via rotational invariance technique (ESPRIT) method [ 17 , 18 ].…”

“…Recent measurement campaigns related to body-centric wireless communication with multiple antennas have been documented in [3]- [17] but to our knowledge, no measurements transmitting real blocks of data off-body, via a textile antenna system, over a 4×4 MIMO communications link have been published before.…”

“…Channel measurements with dual polarized transmissions are presented in [5]; in our measurements the polarization of the off-body antennas varies, due to changes in body posture of the rescue worker in action. The correlation of signals received by dual polarized antennas in an indoor environment was studied in [17]. In [14] measurements of a body-worn antenna system are performed in open space and the effects of a multipath environment are indirectly assessed.…”
