Brainwave and Emotional Responses Based on Application of Five Kinds of Eyeliners on Big and Small Eyes

Purpose: To conduct electroencephalography (EEG) and visual evoked potentials (VEPs) measurements to establish quantitative data on brainwave responses to changes in eyeshadow color, specifically the area ratio of red (R) and blue green (BG) eyeshadows.Methods: A study was conducted on 60 males and females in their 20s using R, BG eyeshadow to determine brainwave responses via spontaneous EEG and VEPs while presenting stimuli with changes in area. The analysis focused on brainwave responses to changes in area.Results: The brainwave responses to color stimuli demonstrated the maximum activity in the occipital lobe. Specifically, the results of the EEG analysis indicated the highest level of psychological relaxation response at the golden ratio (1.61) of the eyeshadow area. Furthermore, when participants wore BG eyeshadow, their brainwave responses remained stable, with consistent alpha wave activation. The presentation of stimuli using only the R eyeshadow resulted in a significant increase in arousal and attention levels among the participants. Perceptual responses exhibited variations based on the ratio of the main color and point color in the color contrast, and rapid VEPs responses were observed specifically under high saturation conditions. Furthermore, the study revealed a high correlation between the brainwave response results and color images, indicating that an optimal ratio of color areas can maximize the impact of the color image.Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that by adjusting the area ratio of colors, it is possible to scientifically determine and achieve the desired color effects in color planning. The brain cognitive responses, resulting from variations in eyeshadow area, can serve as valuable quantitative data for image-making purposes, and can be applied to various fields in the beauty industry to expand their usability

Purpose: Investigating how Munsell’s primary color (i.e., red eye shadow) influences human brain and emotional responses to establish foundational data for image formation. Methods: We analyzed the relative power differences in background brainwaves due to variations in five levels of brightness and saturation for each eye both in male and female individuals in their twenties. We used the coefficient of variation for brainwaves for our analysis. In addition, we assessed the preferences for altered red eye shadow and the emotional responses to determine the average preference index. We performed statistical analysis for brainwaves and emotional evaluations using repeated measure analysis of variance in SPSS, followed by post hoc testing with Tukey’s test at a 95% confidence level. Results: The brainwave and emotional responses obtained by presenting red eye shadow brightness and saturation modification-created stimuli revealed that both men and women exhibited beta and gamma wave activation and alpha wave inactivation upon low brightness and high saturation stimuli. Men were more sensitive to brightness stimuli, whereas women displayed higher-level variability in brainwave responses upon saturation changes. Both genders preferred red eye shadows with brightness and saturation levels of 8 and 2, respectively. The perceptual image responses indicated that stimuli with low or high brightness were perceived as modern and subtle or clear and cute, respectively. Medium or high saturation stimuli were perceived as clear and natural or associated with a modern image, respectively, by both genders. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the impact of various color stimuli on the human brain and emotions. We consider the obtained results as foundational data, which could be used in future image consulting or when crafting desired image presentations.

Brainwave and Emotional Responses of Male and Females to Munsell’s Five Primary Colors

Purpose: The goal is to use quantified EEG and emotional responses to objectively assess the effects of color using gender-specific EEG data, as well as to analyze emotional responses concerning the psychological effects of color modulation. This study intends to apply these findings in various fields. Through this, we hope to better understand how color stimuli affect cognitive responses, brain activity, and emotional regulation.Methods: In this study, we evaluated the EEG and emotional responses to five basic color stimuli in male and females in their 20s. EEG analysis was performed using the Coefficient of Variation for the Brainwaves (CVBs), which is the ratio of the relative brainwave power difference to the baseline brainwave. The five colors were specified using the Munsell notation and RGB values. Emotional responses were evaluated using 10 pairs of adjectives to calculate the preference index(PI), average preference index(API), and favorability. The EEG and emotional evaluations were statistically analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA in SPSS 22.Results: The EEG responses to the five-color stimuli revealed that both male and female experienced increased concentration and arousal with the red (R) and purple (P) stimuli. Colors yellow (Y) and green (G) caused relaxation and comfort in both genders. While male and females had different emotional responses to each color, the reactions were generally similar. Both male and females preferred the color R, while Y and P were equally popular. Color R significantly activated β and γ waves associated with concentration and arousal in both genders. Warm colors were found to elicit arousal, while cool colors induced feelings of comfort, as evidenced by EEG and emotional responses. The findings showed that EEG and emotional responses to color stimuli were similar across genders and that color had a significant and meaningful impact on brainwaves and emotions.Conclusion: The quantified findings of color-based brainwaves and emotional responses can be applied to various fields that use colors. By leveraging these findings, color perception is expected to have a strong influence on human brain activity and emotional regulation.
