Brain oxygenation monitoring during neonatal resuscitation of very low birth weight infants

Abstract: Objective: To explore if regional cerebral tissue oxygen saturation monitoring by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is feasible during neonatal resuscitation of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants after birth.Study Design: Cerebral tissue oxygen saturation was measured by NIRS in 51 VLBW infants (mean gestational age: 27.8 weeks) during the first 10 min after delivery.Result: A regional cerebral tissue oxygen saturation signal was available after a median (interquartile range) age of 52 (44 to 68) s. In three… Show more

“…Briefly, that study included c StO 2 , SpO 2 and heart rate measurements of 51 infants of 27.8 ± 2.6 weeks' gestational age during transition after birth, and most infants had been stabilized using CPAP or sustained inflations at FiO 2 0.4. An identical device, sensors and sensor location were used in both studies [3]. …”

“…Fractional tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE) was calculated using the formula: (SpO 2 - c StO 2 )/SpO 2 [15]. c StO 2 values of healthy term infants were compared to c StO 2 of the VLBW infants described previously [3]. “…Показано, что у детей с очень низкой мас-сой тела уже к 7-й минуте жизни сатурация кисло-рода в ткани мозга составляет 61-84 % [15]. Ме-тод применяется также для выявления изменений церебральной оксигенации в связи с колебаниями системной гемодинамики у больных недоношен-ных детей.…”
