“…Despite the fact that blood BDNF concentration reflects brain-tissue BDNF levels in some animals ( Klein et al, 2011 ), the human data in this field are scarce. Notably, in humans, BDNF is widely expressed outside of the central nervous system, namely, in white blood cells, platelets, vascular endothelium, smooth muscles, and other peripheral tissues ( Shvaikovskaya et al, 2020 ).
