“…The 1.3 ppm peak is several times taller than the 0.9 ppm peak in the mobile lipids commonly seen in toxoplasmosis, lymphomas and high-grade gliomas. Approximately equal-sized peaks have been seen in Zellweger syndrome (11,12), an example of which will be shown below and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) (13)(14)(15)(16)(17)(18). In contrast, a single broad peak usually indicates contamination with skull lipids.…”

“…Fortunately, MRS can easily differentiate between each of the conditions as each provides a unique metabolic signature. 26 Toxoplasmosis has decreased mI, Cho, Cr, and NAA with a 15-to 20-fold increase in lactate/lipids. CNS lymphomas have increased Cho, lactate, and lipids (but on the same order of magnitude) as well as decreased NAA and mI.…”

“…In contrast, 1 H MRS can detect much smaller tumors (1-2 cm 3 at 1.5 T) with the same signal-to-noise ratio as 31 P MRS at the same acquisition time (25). Proton MRS has been demonstrated to be useful in differentiating between cancer, necrosis, and normal tissue of various organs such as brain (26)(27)(28), prostate (29), neck (28), breast (30,31), kidney (32) and liver (33).…”
