Brain‐derived neurotrophic factor‐mimetic compounds in biodegradable microspheres as novel neuroprotective approaches for retinal diseases

Abstract: Purpose: Neuroprotectants can modulate cell survival and molecular pathways common to several inherited retinal degenerations (IRD). Among them, 7,8‐dihydroxyflavone (7,8‐DHF), a brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mimetic, proved to rescue vision in dyeucd6 zebrafish model of IRD by upregulating BDNF–TrkB signalling [1].
