BPIFB1 (LPLUNC1) inhibits migration and invasion of nasopharyngeal carcinoma by interacting with VTN and VIM

Abstract: Background:Bactericidal/Permeability-increasing-fold-containing family B member 1 (BPIFB1, previously termed LPLUNC1) is highly expressed in the nasopharynx, significantly downregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and associated with prognosis in NPC patients. Because metastasis represents the primary cause of NPC-related death, we explored the role of BPIFB1 in NPC migration and invasion. Methods:The role of BPIFB1 in NPC metastasis was investigated in vitro and in vivo. A co-immunoprecipitation assay c… Show more

“…Malignant tumors are a major threat to human health. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, oral cancer, thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer are common malignant tumors that show high rates of metastasis . Moreover, the malignant progression and high mortality rates associated with these tumors are related to their insidious onset, frequent metastasis and recurrence, and poor prognosis .…”

“…Metastasis of tumors typically leads to patient death [113][114][115][116][117]. Studies have shown that the high expression and amplification of the MYC gene can promote tumor metastasis, which is closely related to the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumor cells [118,119].…”

“…According to statistical methods used in a previous study [24], clonal spheroids were divided into two types based on the cell protrusions: cells with distinct protrusions were considered invasive clonal spheroids, and other cells were considered noninvasive.…”
