Bounds on the delay-constrained capacity of UWB communication with a relay node

Abstract: We derive bounds on the expected capacity and outage capacity of a three-node relay network for UWB communications. We also provide a simple tight approximation for the derived upper bound on the capacity and then using this bound we obtain the outage probability of the network. Numerical results show that a significant improvement in the system capacity and outage probability is obtained by adding a relay node. Moreover, our theoretical results reveal that the diversity gain of a relay channel substantially i… Show more

“…In [12], an accurate BER analysis that is based on the characteristic function evaluation was provided over the realistic IEEE 802.15.4a channel model. Finally, addressing DF relaying with MB-OFDM-UWB systems, the error performance and power allocation were provided in [13] while an upper-bound on the capacity was derived in [14].…”

“…Specifically, they have presented the construction of a family of space-time codes which are suitable for TH-UWB with AF and DF protocols. In [2], symbol-error-rate (SER) performance analysis and optimum power allocation of MB-OFDM-UWB systems with DF cooperative protocol have been derived, and the upper bound on the capacity of this protocol has been addressed in [22]. Altogether, research for cooperative networks with UWB transmission is still largely unexplored, especially for the multipath fading propagation.…”

“…A similar BER analysis of single-relay DF systems was performed in [15] over the IEEE 802.15.4a channel model based on computing the characteristic function of the decision variable at the destination. The expected capacity and outage capacity of the single-relay DF scheme were also derived in [16]. The issues of power allocation and path selection were tackled in [17] in the context of DF noncoherent UWB systems.…”
