Boundary conditions and unitarity: the Maxwell-Chern-Simons system in AdS3/CFT2

Abstract: We consider the holography of the Abelian Maxwell-Chern-Simons (MCS) system in Lorentzian three-dimensional asymptotically-AdS spacetimes, and discuss a broad class of boundary conditions consistent with conservation of the symplectic structure. As is well-known, the MCS theory contains a massive sector dual to a vector operator in the boundary theory, and a topological sector consisting of flat connections dual to U (1) chiral currents; the boundary conditions we examine include double-trace deformations in t… Show more

“…This matches nicely with the holographic result: we do not have a precisely marginal parameter g in our computation, but we should instead interpret the logarithm appearing in (45) as measuring the running electromagnetic coupling at the scale of interest. Notice that in the regime of validity of the holographic regime γ 1 implying we are exploring the strong coupling region in terms of the gauge coupling, as expected.…”

“…Boundary conditions for Chern-Simons fields were studied in [38]. It was argued that if 0 < |λ| < 1 then both fall-offs H ± preserve the local AdS asymptotics and that the requirement that boundary conditions preserve the asymptotic conformal symmetry, implies either H + = 0 or H − = 0.…”

“…For example, the charged AdS black hole is mainly related to AdS/CMT applications. In the (2+1)-dimensional charged AdS black hole, its dual theory is associated with the holographic superconductor [44][45][46]. In addition, the Fermi-Luttinger liquid is a model resembling the dual theory [47,48].…”
