Background: Ever-changing perception of beauty from childhood to old age is changing with the revolution in cosmeceuticals science. Esthetics is an individual's perception since time immemorial. Standards of beauty have changed through centuries with increased awareness about esthetics. The face remains main source of information for identification and discrimination. It constitutes a structural ground for many nonverbal messages including the emotional state of a person, so the proverb “Face is an index of mind” holds good. The wrinkles and laxity are considered to be one of the factors for aging. Hence, escalating demand for cosmetic treatment to reduce facial wrinkles and laxity has stimulated us to search for published literature for nonsurgical techniques for enhancement of facial beauty. The review analyzed the published data to provide narrative basic review in a concise way to the beginners, clinicians, and students. Materials and Methods: We have adopted search criteria using keywords: Botox, Botulinum toxin, incobotulinumtoxinA, esthetics, face, uses of Botox, with various Boolean operators and or in title, and abstract using PubMed search engine. The database search limited to PubMed only from January 2013 to June 2018. Results: Various search results have been appended as annexures at the end of the article for further reference for the readers. Finally, 17 references were selected to write narrative review to meet our objectives. Conclusion: The advancing front in the use of toxins is an emerging science for the beautification of a face. Botox exploded in to market because of efficacy, tolerability, and minimally invasive nature. The present review gives brief about the history of Botulinum toxin, types, mechanism of action, clinical indications, preparations, storage, and technique for various uses with a brief note on patient selection, contraindications, and complications.

Also, Zhang et al [33] who showed significant improvement of Total Nasal Symptom Score of AR patients after BTX intranasal injection compared to pre-injection score with the greatest effect was in rhinorrhea, sneeze, nasal congestion and itch subscales and significant improvement in all domains of quality of life scoring, so concluded that BTX shows clear efficacy on symptoms of both intrinsic and allergic rhinitis, with a good safety profile, and duration of action. Thereafter, Zand et al [34] reported significant symptomatic relieve that was maintained for at least 8 weeks using gel-foam impregnated with BTX in AR patients who were non-responder to common therapies and concluded that this therapeutic regimen is an effective and safe.…”

Background: Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common diseases, with no consensus on its ideal treatment. Botulinum Toxin-A was proposed to be an effective treatment. Aim of the work: To estimate the outcome of intranasal injection of Botulinum Toxin-A [BTX-A] as a sole therapy for allergic rhinitis. Patients and Methods: Ninty patients with classic symptoms of allergic rhinitis were clinically evaluated and asked to complete the score for allergic rhinitis [SFAR] questionnaire using cutoff at >8 as diagnostic AR. Two blood samples [venous] and nasal smears were obtained at the beginning of the study and at the end of 12-weeks after initiation of therapy for estimation of human immunoglobulin E [IgE] and eosinophilia grading. Control group included patients who chose to receive combined medical treatment. BTX-A, 2.5 units were injected intranasally, under 0o rigid telescope guidance. Study outcome was the treatment success rate at the end of 12-w follow-up period. Results: Intranasal BTX-A injection provided significantly maintained relieve of allergic rhinitis manifestations especially for running nose than combination therapy. The treatment success rate of 1.9 versus 0.7 item/patient in study versus control group with significant difference in favor of BTX-A injection. Serum IgE levels and eosinophilia grades were significantly lower in control patients. Patients' satisfaction grading was significantly more with BTX-A injection. Conclusion: Intranasal BTX injection could be a safe and effective sole therapeutic modality for patients with long-lasting AR.

This review explores current evidence to demonstrate that botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) exert antipruritic effects. Both experimental and clinical conditions in which botulinum neurotoxins have been applied for pruritus relief will be presented and significant findings will be highlighted. Potential mechanisms underlying antipruritic effects will also be discussed and ongoing challenges and unmet needs will be addressed.
