Botanicals from the leaves of Acacia sieberiana had better cytotoxic effects than isolated phytochemicals towards MDR cancer cells lines

Abstract: The efficiency of cancer chemotherapy is seriously hampered by the development of resistance of neoplastic cells to cytotoxic agents. In the present investigation, the cytotoxicity of the dichloromethane-methanol (1:1) extract of Acacia sieberiana (ASL), fractions (ASLa-c) from the leaves and isolated compounds: chrysoeriol 5) and luteolin (6) was investigated. The study was extended to the assessment of the mode of induction of apoptosis by ASL. The resazurin reduction assay (RRA) was used for cytotoxicity st… Show more

“…To date, various anticancer flavonoids have been identified in TTE, such as apigenin, luteolin, chrysoeriol-7- O -β-D-glucopyranoside, and thalassiolin B [ 9 , 12 , 13 , 16 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]. Similar to TTE, apigenin treatment of SW480 cells shows comparable cell cytotoxicity (IC 50 value 40 µM) [ 35 , 36 ].…”

“…The leaves extract of Acacia sieberiana elicited anticancer activity (Ngaffo et al, 2020). The stem, roots, bark and leaves of Acacia sieberiana were reported to have antibacterial (Kirabo et al, 2018) and antidiarrhoeal actions [18,27].…”
