Botanical Extracts Used in the Treatment of Cellulite

Abstract: BACKGROUND. Cellulite is defined as skin relief alterations that give the skin an orange peel or mattress appearance. The lesions tend to be asymptomatic and may be considered the anatomic expressions of the structures in the affected area, such as the fat and subcutaneous septa.

“…Caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthine, Scheme 1) was selected as a molecular probe of guest-matrix interactions owing to its small and relatively simple structure and in view of its potential applications in pharmaceutical 32,33 and cosmetic formulations. 34,35 Because Caf exhibits a stimulating effect on the cutaneous microcirculation but poor skin penetration, there is wide interest in developing new promising carriers for the controlled topical administration of caffeine in cosmetic formulations. 36 UV Raman scattering investigations of NS hydrogels loaded with Caf were carried out as a function of temperature and guest concentration with the aim of studying the effect of guest-matrix interactions on the solvation behaviour of NS polymers.…”

“…Entre todas as alternativas de tratamento da celulite, as mais utilizadas e acessíveis são os produtos cosméticos contendo substâncias ativas que são protetoras de vasos, anti-inflamatórias, estimulantes da microcirculação periférica e agentes lipolíticos [7] que visam restaurar a estrutura normal do tecido subcutâneo. Exemplos de theophylline) [7], bladderwrack (Fuccus vesiculosus L.), butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus), ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba L.), artichoke (Cynara scolymus), common ivy (Hedera helix), ground ivy (Glechoma hederaceae L.), Centella Asiatica and red grapes (Vitis vinifera) [8], the later two of which are rich in several substances like flavonoids and saponins. Flavonoids are antioxidants that act by reducing lipoperoxidation, capillary permeability, and fragility, enhancing blood and lymphatic circulation.…”

“…Flavonoids are antioxidants that act by reducing lipoperoxidation, capillary permeability, and fragility, enhancing blood and lymphatic circulation. Saponins are anti-inflammatory, anti-edema and capillary protectors [8,9]. These classes of substances are found in great concentrations in some Brazilian trees, for example "Catuaba do Norte" and "Marapuama".…”
