Boronate Ester‐Capped Helicates

Abstract: Triple‐stranded helicates were obtained by metal‐templated multicomponent reactions of bispyridyloxime ligands with arylboronic acids. The helicates feature two hexa‐coordinated MII ions (M=Fe, Zn, or Mn), which are embedded in a macrobicyclic ligand framework, and two arylboronate ester capping groups. The latter can be used to introduce functional groups such as pyridines, aldehydes, nitriles, and carboxylic acids in apical position. The functionalized helicates have the potential to be used as nanoscale bui… Show more

“…We recently described first attempts to integrate compounds of type B into more complex molecular architectures. In particular, we have shown that dinuclear complexes with a helicate-like structure can be obtained when ditopic bispyridyloxime ligands were employed instead of simple pyridyloximes . However, there was no information on whether the helicates were formed under kinetic or (partial) thermodynamic control.…”

“…Ligands A and B are both robust enough to be used for the synthesis of MOFs . Recently, we have reported the synthesis of ligand C , which can be described as a capped helicate . The carboxylic acid groups in C are approximately 2.6 nm apart from each other (O 2 C···C′O 2 distance), which is substantially longer than what is found for metalloligands based on tetraphenylporphyrins (∼1.9 nm) .…”

“…Currently, there are a few examples of dinuclear metalloligands [ 20 , 21 , 22 ], as well as helical metalloligands [ 26 ]. However, to the best of our knowledge, no dinuclear triple helicate metalloligands have so far been incorporated in the synthesis of larger supramolecular architectures, though potential candidates have been identified [ 27 ].…”
