Boron Carbonitride Nanosheet/ZnO Nanorod Heterojunctions for White-Light Emission

Abstract: We report for first time the fabrication of boron carbonitride (B x C y N z ) nanosheets with a unique structural backbone comprised of B-doped graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) as well as C-doped hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and demonstrate their potential applications in light-emitting devices. The existence of these two types of domains in B x C y N z nanosheets bestows a fascinating electronic structure originating from the π, π*, n states of g-C 3 N 4 and the native defect states of h-BN. Like conve… Show more

“…Recently, Pal et al fabricated boron carbonitride (B x C y N z ) nanosheets and then mixed these with ZnO nanorods that led to the production of white light emission. [33] The light-emissive features of the B x C y N z nanostructure materials may open up new pathways to develop flexible LEDs and display devices. 4-Mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA)-functionalized Ag NCs efficiently produced white light emission via an AIE mechanism.…”

“…In contrast to elemental and binary systems, 2D ternary hybrid materials, such as boron carbonitride (BCN) nanosheets and ternary chalcogenides, have been established as nanomaterials with adjustable optical characteristics, providing additional degrees of freedom. BCN is projected to have characteristics that fall between those of graphene and hBN, even though the composition is totally dependent on the preparation technique and conditions. The majority of papers describe the synthesis of BCN using either the solid-state/gas phase assembling of the separate precursors of B, N, and C or exploiting the incorporation of hBN with C. The electronic structure of the BCN material which can be altered by varying the composition and shifting the PL emission peak, strongly influences the luminescence properties of the material.…”
