Boric acid as a protector against paclitaxel genotoxicity.

Abstract: Paclitaxel (PAC) is an anticancer drug used for treatments of breast, ovarian and lung cancers. However, little data is available in the literature on its potential genotoxicity on healthy human cells. On the other hand, boron deficiency and supplementation exert important biological effects in human and animal tissues. The biological effects of dietary boron are defined, but its interaction with PAC is not known for therapeutic uses. The aim of the present study was to determine whether boric acid (BA) confer… Show more

“…At the end of the study, it was determined that COL had no geno-toxic damage potential. These results are in line with the previous findings showing that boron compounds (such as borax, boric acid) are non-genotoxic in cultured human blood cells (Turkez et al, 2007, Turkez, Tatar, Hacimuftuoglu, & Ozdemir, 2010Geyikoglu & Turkez 2008;Turkez, 2008;Celikezen et al, 2014;. Gülsoy, Yavas, & Mutlu (2018), was expressed in their study; the same type of borax and boric acid compounds may differ significantly depending on the time (increase in toxicity at 24 hours and decrease in 48, 72 and 96 hours).…”

“…In this study, the combination of hollow BNs-b spheres with PTX drugs shows most effective antitumour efficacy among all the groups owing to the synergetic effects of hollow BN spheres and PTX drugs. In addition, BA was reported to help protect against genotoxicity and cytotoxicity in lymphocytes induced by PTX55.…”

“…From a clinical perspective, the study provides anticipated rationale for the clinical side effects of taxol. In human cancer patients, taxol-induced lymphocyte toxicity (27), neutropenia (4), testicular shrinkage (28), and ovarian damage (29), are potentially correlated with the endogenous GT198 protein expression specifically in testis, ovary, spleen, and thymus (16,22). The acute taxol toxicity in rodents was also found in ovary (30), testis, hematopoietic, and lymphoid systems (31).…”
