The entire Earth system consists of fully dynamic conditions. Humankind’s manifold large and small influences on the planet are now very well-documented.Changes are now so vast, their traces so significant, that we have come to term this as if it was genuinely a new Epoch in that history – as the Anthropocene.Recently, however, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how an ostensibly small event at a single locality can take just a few weeks or months to change the world, and in some real sense to stop it. The author in this article in particular seeks to inject a further dose of far-reaching reflection on our pandemic, its influence on life on Earth, and its possible future consequences. Ultimately, then, it seeks an answer for a key question – as to whether COVID-19 is really in a position to stop, or at least slow, the runaway Anthropocene.With a view to encouraging reflection on humankind’s potentially reduced impact on the planet the Author suggestspriority areas of study in the near future.

Over the past decade, the concepts of border have gained resonance in several disciplines within social sciences. While critical theory of borders has made tremendous advancements, scarcity of the scholarship in border studies is still evident. Borders are, in general, cultural, social, territorial, geographical, political, sexual and racial separators. This article deals with geographical borders in the Southeast Asian (SEA) region. Most countries in SEA share borders with each other. Under a range of circumstances and relationships such as trade, security and migration flows take place. Southeast Asia’s heterogeneity—politically, ethnically, religiously, economically, demographically and spatially—has crucial implications for neighbourly relationships, trade, border constructions, migration and refugee flows for all the countries. This article delves into the interplay between borders and heterogeneity in SEA and their outcomes. We argue that borders type determine the level of relationship between neighbouring countries and security outcome, trade and population mobility.

La table des matières de l'ouvrage est présentée en fin d'introduction La politique de séparation israélienne mise en oeuvre depuis les années 1990 n'a pas coupé les relations entre Israéliens et Palestiniens, elle les a profondément transformées. Partant de ces interactions et des espaces qu'elles structurent, ce livre propose d'apporter une compréhension plus nuancée du fonctionnement du régime d'occupation et des frontières entre Israël, la Cisjordanie et la bande de Gaza. En outre, en proposant un détour par les expériences d'autres populations (Palestiniens du Sud Liban, Libanais de Galilée, migrants venus d'Afrique et d'Asie) ce livre souligne combien le discours sur la séparation masque d'autres constructions et pratiques des espaces israélo-palestiniens. Cet ouvrage prend ainsi le contrepied des approches dominantes sur cette région. Plutôt que de se limiter à une étude institutionnelle des mécanismes de contrôle israéliens, ou de se focaliser sur leur impact au sein de la société palestinienne, il propose une perspective intermédiaire. Car l'analyse des vécus, des adaptations et des détournements que font les populations à partir de ces mécanismes de contrôle permet de mieux comprendre non seulement comment ce régime les affecte, mais également comment il est affecté par leurs réactions. Ce livre rassemble quinze enquêtes de terrain menées par des historiens, des anthropologues, des géographes, des politistes et des sociologues. Ayant travaillé à la fois du côté palestinien, du côté israélien et dans les zones situées à l'interface de ces espaces, ces chercheurs mettent en lumière des processus qui permettent de mieux comprendre le fonctionnement du régime de mobilité israélien. Nous entendons par « régime de mobilité », l'ensemble des institutions, des réglementations, des infrastructures et des pratiques qui, depuis les années 1990, ont permis aux Israéliens de réguler, canaliser et surveiller les circulations quotidiennes des Palestiniens entre la bande de Gaza, Israël, Jérusalem Est et la Cisjordanie.
