“…As hypothesized, our BN patients displayed a specific psychopathological profile, characterized by higher impulsivity, more borderline personality traits, more severe depressive features, and more self-defeating personality traits. These findings are in accordance with the data from the literature, which report a high prevalence of impulsive behaviors [12,13,15,18,[56][57][58][59] , depressive features [4,16,45,60,61] , borderline personality traits [1,13,15,57] and self-defeating personality traits [56,62] in BN patients. However, when the data from the literature are analyzed, we can see that in most of the studies these four clinical items are considered and analyzed as isolated variables, rather than a cluster of interrelated clinical variables.…”

“…In other words, the emergence of impulsive behaviors (IBS-R) and the existence of personality traits reflecting instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and affects, and other symptoms from the borderline spectrum (DIB-R) characterized the subjects in our patient group, discriminating them from controls. Both impulsivity [15,56,57,59,63] and borderline features [1,17,19,64,65] have been traditionally related to BN, but the strong association of impulsivity and borderline features in our sample led us to believe that perhaps differences exist between the individuals who are diagnosed as being highly impulsive and/or as having a borderline personality disorder and our BN patients. The DSM-IV-TR considers borderline personality disorder as a unique diagnostic category, and consequently proposes a set of diagnostic criteria for borderline personality disorder.…”

“…The biologicalpsychological explanation is that an addiction model could be used to understand and formulate the acquisition and maintenance of impulsive purging behaviors, as has been suggested in other BN atypical substance abusers (Komhuber et al, 1996;Huebner, 1993). A combination of both explanations has also been suggested (Verkes, Pijl, Meinders, & Van Kempen, 1996).…”

“…Différents travaux ont tenté de corréler le niveau de la MAOB à certains aspects de l'humeur, du comportement et de la pré-disposition à différentes maladies [17][18][19][20][21][22]. L'inhibition pharmacologique de la MAO a des effets importants sur le fonctionnement neurophysiologique : ainsi, des adultes traités pendant plusieurs années par des inhibiteurs de la MAO, comme certains types d'antidépresseurs, ressentent une hyperactivité et une amélioration de l'humeur.…”
