Boosting Visible‐Light Photocatalytic Performance for CO2 Reduction via Hydroxylated Graphene Quantum Dots Sensitized MIL‐101(Fe)

Abstract: Herein, a one‐step solvothermal method that shows incorporation of the graphene quantum dots (GQDs) on Fe‐based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) [MIL‐101(Fe)] to form GQD/MIL‐101(Fe) (G/M101) composites is reported. MIL‐101(Fe) with the sensitization of GQDs could significantly improve the photocatalytic reduction efficiency of CO2 to generate CO. The prepared composites exhibit excellent optical properties and the photocatalytic activity of G/M101 composites is relevant to GQDs ratio. The CO production rate ov… Show more

“…The peak at 551 cm −1 is assigned to the Fe–O vibration. 40 The formation of Fe–O clusters proves the successful combination of Fe 3+ with H 2 BDC. Peaks at 1157 and 1082 cm −1 in the MIL-101(Fe II /Fe III ) spectrum were attributed to the –OH bending vibration ( δ OH ), the coordination of –OH groups with Fe III to preserve the electrical neutrality, 41 demonstrates the presence of unreacted EG.…”

“…Moreover, the difference in binding energy of 13.9 eV between Fe 2p 1/2 and Fe 2p 3/2 , as along with the presence of the satellite peaks at 716.45 eV, demonstrate that the Fe element of CEM-10 exists in form of Fe 3+ . 24,47 Additionally, the peaks at 711.45 eV and 725.35 eV of CEM-10 exhibit a slight shift to lower binding energies compared with those of pristine MI101(Fe), meaning that the electron density on Fe increased. 2,48 In the high-resolution Ce 3d spectra (Fig.…”

“…In the past several years, many other materials such as MXene, [ 263–265 ] covalent organic frameworks (COF), [ 266–268 ] perovskite, [ 269,270 ] Gr QDs, [ 271 ] etc., have been also used as co‐catalysts to enhance the catalytic activity of MOFs. For instance, in 2020, Wu and co‐workers synthesized a Ti 3 C 2 /MIL‐125‐NH 2 photocatalyst for H 2 O 2 production.…”
