Boosting the Self-Trapped Exciton Emission in Cs2NaYCl6 Double Perovskite Single Crystals and Nanocrystals

Abstract: Halide double perovskites have aroused substantial research interest because of their unique optical properties and intriguing flexibility for various compositional adjustments. Herein, we report the synthesis and photophysics of rare-earth element yttrium (Y)-based double perovskite single crystals (SCs) and nanocrystals (NCs). The pristine Cs2NaYCl6 bulk SCs exhibit a weak sky-blue emission with a low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 7.68% based on the self-trapped exciton (STE), while no PL emissio… Show more

“…Especially note that Sb 3+ doped Cs 2 KInCl 6 becomes an indirect band gap with a value of 2.07 eV, but has little effect on the radiative recombination of STEs, that is because STEs recombination is not at Γ point. 15 Upon Sb 3+ doped, a new band shows up in HOMO (Figure 3c), which is mostly dominated by Cl-p and Sb-s characters (Figure 3d). However, the LUMO is hardly affected by Sb 3+ due to the Sb-p state is much higher than the In-d state.…”

“…For pure Cs 2 KInCl 6 , it exhibits a negligible emission under ultraviolet (UV) excitation due to the parity‐forbidden transition rule (Figure S2, Supporting Information). [ 15 ] For comparison, 0.5%Sb 3+ doped Cs 2 KInCl 6 shines bright cyan light emission peaking at 495 nm. Moreover, this compound also possesses a full width at half maxima (FWHM) of 98 nm and a PLQY of 95% (Figures S3 and S4, Supporting Information), which can be attributed to STEs emission in this compound due to strong Jahn‐Teller lattice distortion and spin‐orbit interaction of [SbCl 6 ] 3‐ clusters.…”

“…Such a combination should strongly accelerate the search for new phosphors, which is currently performed by an Edisonian approach. Nevertheless, we want to highlight the successes of the Edisonian approach as well, evidenced by several new doped LFP emitters reported during the time the present Minireview was peer‐reviewed, in particular, those based on Cs(Rb) 3 Cd 2 Cl 7 ,[ 48 , 49 ] Cs 2 NaYCl 6 , [50] and Cs 2 AgScCl 6 [51] as host matrices.…”
