“…The spinel oxides composed of transition metals like Co [18][19][20][21][22], Ni [23,24], Zn [25], Mn [26,27], and Fe [28,29] have been identified as potential electrocatalysts for OER application. Co3O4 is one of the spinel oxides which was found to be an excellent OER electrocatalyst [30][31][32][33]. Beside this, bimetallic oxides of cobalt having a spinel structure were investigated in the wide range of energy storage and conversion applications [34][35][36].…”

“…Previous studies have reported that the nucleation, growth, and morphology of LDHs on carbonaceous substrates can be controlled by adding Na 3 C 6 H 5 O 7 Á2H 2 O. 41,42,43 In the absence of Na 3 C 6 H 5 O 7 Á2H 2 O, thin LDH coating layers with a distorted hierarchical structure were formed on the external surface of the carbonaceous substrates. The LDH@s-GO and LDH@s-(GO/o-NH) samples exhibited a three-dimensional hierarchical structure of thin Ni-Co LDH nanosheet-coated microflower-like structures (Figure 2B,D).…”

“…In an alkaline solution rich in Co ions, nickel foam as the substrate will play an important role in the synthesis of Co(OH) 2 due to its surface covered with some intermediate products. Some investigations proved that the nanowire-like Ni-Co-based carbonate hydroxide is formed preferentially on the surface of nickel foam in the hydrothermal process [ 34 , 35 , 36 ]. A large number of the intermediate products adhering to the nickel foam surface possess considerably high surface energy, owing to their very high specific surface area.…”

“…The intermediate products synthesized in the hydrothermal process will be transformed into spinel NiCo 2 O 4 nanowires in subsequent annealing. Du et al [ 34 ] prepared the precursor on nickel foam in an alkaline solution (1 mmol Ni(NO 3 ) 2 ·6H 2 O, 2 mmol CoCl 2 ·6H 2 O and 15 mmol HMT dissolved into 70 mL water) by the hydrothermal method. Then, the precursor was annealed to obtain NiCo 2 O 4 nanowires.…”
