“…Another important issue is the increase in the persistence of the emission, which allows the acquisition of signals at longer delays, reducing the need of fast-gating detectors. 50 The modification of the ablation surface with the coverage with metallic nanoparticles (so-called nanoparticleenhanced LIBS, or NE-LIBS) is a simple but quite efficient way of improving the analytical signal in LIBS without modification of the experimental set-up or introduction of secondary sources. 51 Enhancement factors up to two orders of magnitude in conductors has been reported, together with a clear improvement in the reproducibility.…”

“…The selection of electrode materials is of significance to the accurate measurement and there are no specific research about it so far. Molybdenum 16 , platinum 17 , copper 18 , 19 and tungsten 10 13 were chosen as the electrode materials for experiment as they are the common electrode materials, and the spectral interference, plasma characteristic, delay time were studied to obtain optimal plasma observation state. Different size of quartz sands were also tested to investigate the size effect.…”

“…To date, many methods have been used to improve the sensitivity of LIBS, such as double-pulse [9], plasma confinement [10], microwave [11], spark discharge [12,13], magnetic field [14], and flame [15]. Among methods mentioned above, double-pulse has been proved a very effective way to improve analytical performance of LIBS.…”
