Cultural heritage (CH) plays a vital role in passing history to the present and also the future, which means it is important to build an efficient and friendly way to broadcast and inherit these past civilizations. Information communication technology (ICT) is one of the popular methods that can attract people’s attention on understanding history or joining in heritage preservation. To achieve that, governments have built a large numbers of official ICT platforms. However, most of them neglected people’s preferences on the retrieval of cultural heritage information. In terms of user experiences, the previous platforms are less than satisfactory in increasing the awareness of the cultural heritage. Thanks to the new technology, 3D models and virtual reality (VR) bring spring life to cultural heritage. This paper developed a new multimedia platform based on people’s preferences to overcome these disadvantages. UML-based web engineering (UWE) is applied to present the web application’s architecture, the database structure, and the platform’s interface. To demonstrate the multimedia platform, Strijp-S, an industry cultural heritage site in the city of Eindhoven (the Netherlands), has been used as a case area. This proposed platform provides a new idea on system architecture design of the multimedia platform and may strengthen the public’s knowledge of cultural heritage, and thereby increase the awareness of cultural heritage to keep it sustainable.

This research aimed to design and develop a digital platform-mediated tourism system for self-service information in small-town destinations. It focused on a case study performed in Koh Raet, Surat Thani province, Thailand. The system consists of the Tourism Information Service (TIS) system and a digital game for discovering Koh Raet. The TIS System is designed for self-visiting activities in Koh Raet. Furthermore, the digital game for exploring and discovering Koh Raet was also integrated with a QR code, with the objective of improving tourist experiences. A qualitative approach was conducted, followed by managing the system development, and finally, the system evaluation related to the efficiency of the proposed system was performed. To evaluate the system, we gathered qualitative data from an online questionnaire. Based on the results, we conclude that the participants were highly satisfied with the system's performance. The research contributes to empowering small-town tourism by combining tourism information services and gamification into a digital-platform-mediated tourism system. Another contribution is to provide a self-service experience for travelers in small-town destinations, offering reliable and up-to-date information about the destination. Furthermore, it is intended to foster small-town tourism promotion, and boost tourism activities in small-town destinations in sustainable ways

Tourist behavior change in choosing tourist attractions have made tourism villages the prima donna. The presence of a tourist village is interpreted as an integration between interest and social activity with the leading role played by the community. Through these activities, the part of tourism in community empowerment is something that needs attention. This study aims to find the meaning of Independence in managing tourist villages carried out by the community. This study uses a qualitative design through a phenomenon. This study tries to explore the community’s experience as a tourist village manager and the impacts that arise. The data collection process was carried out through semi-structured interviews with five informants. This research showed the meaning of community independence and its impact on managing tourist villages, including community self-confidence, community commitment, community economic empowerment and knowledge transfer. Thus, good management will provide positive results for the village’s and its people’s development. Several studies strengthen the argument for the role of the community as managers of regional potential. However, only some studies have raised the issue of community independence in managing tourist villages. Besides that, the conclusions of this study can also provide the guidance needed to develop regional potential, especially in tourism villages.
