Bone marrow aplasia associated with metronidazole.

Abstract: The Samson infant resuscitator2 may be preferable, since although high transitory pressures may be achieved the smaller reservoir does not allow maintenance of this high pressure. The question is what to recommend for the relatively inezperienced person and there is a need for existing apparatus to be critically appraised.

“…Only one other case of metronidazole-induced aplastic anemia has been described in literature. 6 White and colleagues reported a case in which a 74-year-old male received metronidazole 200 mg orally 3 times daily for 7 days prior to a right hemicolectomy and for 10 days post-procedure. The patient developed fluctuating pyrexia for 11 days post-procedure and further workup demonstrated bone marrow aplasia.…”
